Born in Lewis Center, Columbus, Ohio, Chad grew up playing club soccer in the Ohio area.  After being accepted into U.S. Soccer's residency program for the youth men's national team he departed from Ohio to Bradenton, Florida at age 16. Chad later returned and teamed up with his long time friend, Kofi Sarkodie, to anchor the University of Akron’s men’s soccer backline to a NCAA College Cup Championship.  His notable play garnered Chad a homegrown player contract with Columbus Crew SC in 2013.
